Alex Katz at the Serpentine Galleries

Titled 'Quick Light', this exhibition at London's Serpentine Gallery illustrates Alex Katz's distinct use of rapid 'wet on wet' painting to capture light in rural landscapes and on the surfaces of urban life. Several of his cinematically scaled portraits are also included in the show. Learning from earlier painters, the brevity of poetry and the character of film, Alex Katz's paintings are both traditional and contemporary.
